Specialty Enzymes (AST Enzymes)

Location: Chino, CA
President: Vic Rathi

Under normal circumstances Arthur Andrew Medical believes it is better to never respond to the negative feedback from our competitors, but rather rely on our quality products and good customer service to develop our company's image.  Much like a political campaign, Specialty Enzymes has been misleading the public about our company and products.  We feel it is now time to clear the air.  We absolutely loathe Specialty Enzymes' business practices and their lack of ethics, so we decided to never do business with them again.  If they want to try to make up for losing us as a customer by making disparaging comments about us then we feel its time to tell the public the truth about them.

Who is AST Enzymes? If you peel back these layers you will find that AST Enzymes is a the private labeled product line of Specialty Enzymes.  They market such products as Serracor. Arthur Andrew Medical contacted Specialty Enzymes in August of 2003 asking them to help co-develop our new enzyme formula.  Arthur Andrew Medical had been selling and brokering enzyme formulas and raw material for several years before our meeting.  We sold finished goods including Wobenzym and Vitalzym.  With our success grew the need to develop our own formula.  We had dealt with several well known enzyme manufacturing companies in the past, but decided we wanted a product similar to Vitalzym.

Originally we were happy with the original Neprinol formula and marketed it with much success over the course of four years.  As our company grew we began to develop and market several more products. We believe in the integrity and quality of all of our products, but who ultimately supplied our materials was not our primary concern, it was the quality of the finished product that was and continues to be to this day. Through the years we had established relationships with several foreign and domestic enzyme vendors and decided to take the Neprinol business elsewhere when we discovered that we could improve activity levels and offer a better overall product.

Even though the process of securing new vendors is a huge undertaking, in hindsight it was ultimately the best choice we ever made.  Specialty Enzymes capsules are opaque white, from the inclusion of Soya Protein in the capsule.  These opaque capsules make it impossible to see if the capsules are 100% full without weighing them and also offered little to no protection from the acidic stomach.  Neprinol now comes in clear cellulose Acid Armor capsules so you can see the capsules are full and the formula is now fully protected from stomach acidity for an average of 30-45 minutes which is typically the time it takes one to pass a capsule on an empty stomach.  Much research, testing and R&D revealed that the old Neprinol formula had several areas upon which we could improve. Our current Neprinol formula is greater in strength in several areas including fibrinolytic activity, our primary area of concern. In addition to a more potent formula, we were also able to include the aforementioned Acid Armor capsules without raising the cost.

Further, our decision to move on from Specialty Enzymes seems to be a blessing with the published news that Specialty Enzymes is responsible for a large-scale recall of enzyme products distributed throughout the world (October 2013) due to a contaminant known as chloramphenicol (which is a drug-class antibiotic that has no business being in a dietary supplement). News of this was first made public in the EU and then in Canada. See the article below for further details on the press release in Canada. Thankfully, due to our decision to move on from Specialty Enzymes, this recall does not impact any Arthur Andrew products.
